Homeward Bound
The sign on the wall was almost threatening in it's insistence that discharges were at 11:00 AM, dammit. So when 9:00 arrived I had already anxiously loaded most of our gear into the auto (waaaay downstairs and around the other side of the building) in wide-eyed anticipation. I was awaiting the go ahead to get out of Dodge. Doctors were supposed to come; they didn't. Nurses were supposed to come; they didn't either. Not only was nothing happening, but no one was telling us why nothing was happening. I hate that.

10:00, nothing. 10:30, nothing. Finally at 11:00 a doctor Greenstein gave us our "the kid is OK; don't kill it" lecture. We waited some more.

They came to take the security device off of Sonja. Of course they hadn't removed Sony from the computer before doing so, so the whole ward went into lockdown. Alarms went off, doors locked, the whole nine yards. We continued to wait.

Around noon we inquired about the remedy to the lockdown situation. We were told that it had been resolved some time ago. You know, it woulda been nice if someone had told us. Finally we saddled up and moved out.

On the way out it seemed as if we were a target. Some stupid woman almost backed into us. She was too busy talking on her phone to bother looking where she was going. Some blue hair almost plowed into us because she was to feeble to drive her land-yacht. *sigh*

We got home and did some unloading. Hannah's sister and 'rents brought Juliet up to the homestead. Juliet looked at Sonja with a look that seemed to say "OK, what is that doing here?" She steered clear of her at all times. She seemed curious, but more so leery.

We had a somewhat casual rest of the day. Sonja demanded milk in ever-increasing quantities and ever shorter intervals and Hannah capitulated. We moved some furniture and Rachel and Hannah Sr. finished moving Juju's remaining stuff from her old room (now Sonja's) to her new pad. After that the Mandaranos bolted and our newly expanded family relaxed at home for the first time.

We rested as best we could as we satisfied the needs of the two-year-old and the two-day-old. After bath time and Melmo Juliet went down without a hassle. We relaxed for an hour or two until, around 10:00, when all hell broke loose.

Sonja awoke for a typical feeding, but after and extraordinarily long feeding time (even more extraordinary than the usual extraordinarily long times) she still wasn't satisfied. In attempt to keep from using the nipple as a pacifier I made a futile attempt to get her to sleep using non-food oriented techniques. I applied my time-tested bobbin' skills from the Juju-newborn era. After 45 minutes Sonja would fall asleep and I would plant her. After ten minutes of sound snoozing she would wake up and we would start all over. It was ridiculous. Finally around 3:00 AM (why do these incidents always require it to be 3:00 AM?), after five hours of this crap, she did actually go to sleep. Shoot me, just shoot me now.

As for Sonja's development, she seems to be very aware. As she looks around she seems to be checking things out. She seemingly has already figured out how to manipulate us.

The first sister abuse incident took place today (it didn't take long did it?). Finster was climbing Hannah and wasn't paying attention and put all of her weight on Sonja as she tried to climb by. There wasn't any malice, but it was just funny that it happened already.
