Life Begun
Birthing done. Unlike Juliet, Sonja was born early in the AM. So, instead of going to bed we remained awake. This was a shame since we had already been awake for about 22 hours by the time Sony was born. The rest of the day was relatively quiet. Having not eaten for a while, my 'rents, Hannah's mother, and I went to the caf to munch. After that we returned to the room to hang.

Much like Juliet, Sonja took to the breast within an hour of birth. She even picked up her head. Her feedings throughout the day went without incident. She filled a number of dipes with poop, which is unusual for a newborn, but nothing to be alarmed about.

Hannah's Dad had been staying at our place with Juju since we had to bolt in the wee hours. Mid-morning he brought Juliet up for her first visit with Sonja. That went without incident. Juliet took a look at her and said, "Doll". Sonja was sleeping at the time so I think she just didn't get that she was a real human. As she started to get wild around naptime, the Mandarano's took her to their place. Some time thereafter my rents bolted as well. After roughly 30 hours awake, Hannah and I got a little bit of much needed rest. This rest, of course, was regularly interrupted by Sonja's demands for food. This will become a recurring theme.

Our dear friend from the first birthing, Jen, stopped in. The most recent labor thing gave cause for much reminiscing. Sony took to her right away.

In the early evening I took off to get Juju and head home for a bit of pseudo-normalcy in #1 daughter's life. We got home and I pretty much dumped her right into the bathtub. It's her favorite thing. After the regular water ritual I was able to put her down with surprisingly little trouble. Once she was down I had the opportunity to wash some essentials (car-seat liner, swing liner, etc.), install the infant seat in the Murano, and update the birthing journal. I was going to post pictures but my sleep-deprived planning decided that the camera should stay with Hannah, oops. I was also going to shotgun the world with the "Another Star Is Born" email, but I simply ran out of gas. I had gotten about two hours of sleep in the previous 36 hours so I guess that that is understandable. Night night, for me anyway.

Hannah was having a much different experience. Sonja's appetite apparently becomes ravenous after dark. No matter how much Hannah fed her Sony just wouldn't sleep more than a few minutes. Around 3:00 AM a sympathetic nurse came in and torqued down her swaddle. This finally got her to sleep. She then took Sony to the nursery. Finally Hannah also got some rest.
