Four Shot Maximum
Today was Juliet's next visit to the pediatrician. She was scheduled to receive four shots. The last time this was very traumatic for both baby and mother so Hannah wanted me to accompany her. I did.

We were taken back to the examination room by the nurse. Julie seemed to recognize the room and the nurse and immediately started to get freaked. I guess she still has post-traumatic stress from the last two stabbing incidents. The examination went smoothly but Juliet was definitely on edge.

The nurse recorded her progress. Julie weighs in at 12 pounds 13 ounces, she is 25 inches long, and her head is 16" around. The nurse departed to return after the doctor had examined her in order to administer the pain, oh, I mean the vaccines.

Hannah had originally made the appointment with Dr. Galena, our usual doctor but, for reasons unknown, the people at the practice had to swap him out for Dr. Alpert. We think that we are going to start scheduling with him instead. While I have no doubt that Dr. Galena is a fine doctor, he seems a bit stiff. Dr. Alpert was very warm, seemed to be more thorough, and Juliet seemed to like him. Given that we think we're going to run with him.

The doctor gaves us the briefing for the next two months (her next visit). Juliet has been given the go ahead for real foods. We are to start with only one food per day to determine her compatibility with it. Given that I'm allergic the just about everything that grows I think this is a very prudent choice. Anyway, she is cleared for bland fruits and cereals, i.e. apples (very allergic), pears (allergic), peaches, bananas (very allergic), rice, barley, and oatmeal. She has been cleared for juice as well, but this is not recommended except in the instance of hanging out in the heat if we think she is getting dehydrated.

Juju has also been cleared for the swimming pool so that should be interesting. We have diapers for her to wear in the pool but they are for a 16 pound baby. Finster is a bit short of that but we will see how they fit.

Then, for the entertainment portion of our program, the nurse returned and gave Juliet four shots. Included were HIB, Diptheria, Whooping Cough, and a few other things that I cannot remember. It was a full battery of, like, six diseases that were covered. As expected Juliet was not happy. OK, I would say wildly hurt and pissed off. She seemd insensed that I would just sit there holding her hands and reassuring her while this strange woman stuck swabbed her with cold stuff and stabbed her with needles. After the torture was over she calmed a bit, but it took Hannah's nipples to really quiet her down.

We packed her up and Hannah took her home whilst I went on to work.
